Bio
Samantha Cary lives and works in Berwick upon Tweed in the Northeast of England. Her most recent body of work represents significant development in her practice; Moving between painting, mono prints, etchings and woodcuts and through a process of addressing, examining and transforming strong emotions, the works create a series of complex, layered and often darkly humorous images. Starting with imagined scenarios, through a process of patient, meticulous and playful interaction with materials and referencing music, television, films, fairytales and art history, they explore networks of stories that describe fleeting emotions, experiences and ideas of self. They are both intensely personal and entirely made up.
